WHERE TO BUY MAGNETS?

The emitter of the phottransistor and the cathode of the photodiode are grounded

The component we use is the PHCT202 manufactured by Photonics.
I do note have the datasheet of this component with me but I am sending the datasheet of a similar component, the PHCT553. It has the same electrical characteristics, but with a different physical body.
Be careful that the terminals are identified with different letters:
A-anode K-cathode E-emitter C-collector. ( while the PHCT 202 that is on the manual 3.0 uses E-cathode D-emitter and + for the collector and the anode)

Questions on the (Optointerrupter) the Emitter coming from opto to the Base, or is it going to the Emitter? (Transistor Q1) and Question two (Optointerrupter) the Collector coming from opto to the Emitter, or is it going to the Base? (Transistor Q2)

Another question that arrive:
Can you use a optical Sensor (Photodiode) or dose it have to be a (Phototransistor) in order to work in the Keppe Motor 3.0?

Answer:

We use a photosensor that has both components inside. A photodiode and a phototransistor. But you can build one with separate components.
You need both because the photodiode emits light that is converted into a pulse by the phototransistor when the light is intercepted by the 120 degrees disc attached
to the shaft.

What about the Manual 3.0 version part list and price. The Circuits Diagram layout and part list from the Manual 3.0 is Crap! I keep e-mailing with on reply! Is this for real? Do you guys have a better circuits diagram layout and part list? Or better yet, anyone have plans on making a step by step video for the 3.0 Motor? In English with a part list?

I got my magnets from McMaster. P/N 5738K31. They are 1-7/8 X 7/8 X 3/8 and cost 86 cents each. In fact I got the wire, the shaft, the bearings from there also. Because the magnets are a little bigger than the manual says the motor size is scaled up accordingly by about 10%. It should still work well.

I think the reed switch makes the contact at the moment magnet is approaching. The motor uses low current. I think it would not happen this way it the contact was closed the most of one turn of shaft.

As "juriz" indicated, the exact size of the magnets probably is not that important. Today, I finalised a motor with two magnets sized 25 x 40 x 8 mm and they also did the job (shaft running at an estimated 150 rpm, I have no tools to measure the rpm).

There were even some more deviations:
* only used 2 x 300 windings instead of 2 x 500 (because I didn't find enough wire);
* use of slide bearings instead of ball bearings.

Maybe you can try another size of magnet, not exact size as described in manual. I got magnets of another size (width=1 cm), I have not built motor yet, but going try with the magnets I have. Hope my experiment will be successful.
